OBITUARY
W Bro Gerald Walter Davis PJGD

21 August 2024

Brethren,

It is with great sadness that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge above yesterday afternoon of W. Bro Gerald Walter Davis, PJGD.

W. Bro Gerald was a long standing friend of Llangeinor Lodge No 4194, a regular visitor and guest of W. Bro Roy Hart and a supporter of all the Lodge’s social and fund raising functions.

W. Bro Gerald’s achievements and contributions to Freemasonry were considerable; many will remember him serving as 2nd Provincial Grand Principal (2006-08) and his subsequent promotions in Supreme Grand Chapter.

In the Craft: W. Bro. Gerald was Initiated into the Ewenny Lodge No. 8485 and became Worshipful Master in 1983. Gerald was a Member of the Lodge of Benevolence No. 7305 and was a joining-member of Hendre Lodge in October 2000.

In Provincial Grand Lodge: Gerald was Appointed as Provincial Grand Junior Warden. He was appointed as a Grand Officer in 2001, holding the Rank PAGDC and further Promoted in 2010 to PJGD.

In Royal Arch: E. Companion Gerald was Exalted into the Glanogwr Chapter No. 8508, and became the First Principal in 1994.
He was appointed to Provincial Grand Chapter in 1996, as ProvGStdB, and eventually became 2nd Provincial Grand Principal from 2006 - 2008.
E. Comp. Gerald was a member and of many Chapters, including Hendre Chapter No. 3250 and honorary member of many others including Adare Chapter No.9247 .

E. Comp. Gerald was Appointed to Supreme Grand Chapter in 2003 with the Rank of PGStB and further promoted in 2012 to the Rank of PAGSoj.

Ill. Bro. Gerald is recorded as being Perfected into the Holy Well Chapter (Rose Croix) on 3rd September 1994 and became MWS in September 2008. He was promoted to 30* on 27th April 2010.

W. Bro. Gerald was married to the late Mrs. Gaynor Davis, both very much devoted to each other. W. Bro Gerald suffered with ill health over many years but always had a smile for everyone.

Gerald was recently hospitalised in the Princess of Wales, where he Passed.
W. Bro Gerald will be greatly missed by all who had the honour and privilege of knowing him in South Wales and beyond, a true Gentleman and Mason.

Requiescat in pace!
I will update you with the funeral arrangements when known.

Yours sincerely and fraternally,
Alan Reeks,
Secretary,
Llangeinor Lodge No. 4194.
Brethren,

You will probably know that Gerald's funeral service will take place at 12.30pm at St. Theodore's Church, Kenfig Hill on Thursday 19th September, 2024, this will be followed by a cremation at Margam Crematorium at 13.45pm and afterwards at The Grove Golf Club, South Cornelly.

For those attending the funeral, particularly any ladies, I have a further piece of information.

In structure, if not entirely in content, Gerald's funeral service will follow the pattern set by Gaynor's last autumn. You may recall that ladies were invited, if they wished, to wear a brightly coloured item of clothing, e.g. a scarf.

A similar indication has been given - from the family - regarding Gerald's funeral. This is not a requirement, merely an invitation.

I must apologise. I was in possession of this information last week. I posted it to Gaynor's former magistrate colleagues, but not Masonically.

REQUIESCAT IN PACE

Fraternal regards,

Martyn
