Brethren,

It is with much personal regret and sadness that I bring you the news of the passing, to the Grand Lodge Above, of Bro. Mark Richard Hyett. Mark was 59 years old.

Mark was Initiated in Bridgend's Morganwg Lodge, No 5084 in February 2007 and contributed in many ways to the life of the Lodge as far as his career, and later his health, would allow. He was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer in 2016, and was having regular treatment for that condition. Despite that, he continued working and attending Lodge when he could. He took the office of Inner Guard in 2018/19. Companion Mark was Exalted in Atholl Royal Arch Chapter No 1752 in February 2014 and was appointed as Steward in 2015 and 2016.

Mark often spoke warmly of the care and treatment that he received from the NHS in Swansea. His treatment as an outpatient continued even through the current abnormal circumstances. However, his condition took a relatively sudden turn for the worse and he lost his long fight at Singleton Hospital on the morning of Thursday 30 April 2020.

Mark is survived by his wife Samantha and two children, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.

W.Bro. David Bassett - who was a close friend of Mark's - informed me of his passing and asked me to relay the information. Apparently Mark had, some time ago, discussed his own funeral arrangements in great detail with David. Sadly Covid-19 will have a big impact on those plans, even though it played no apparent part in Mark's demise. 

Like all others at the moment, the funeral will now be a private one and will take place on Wednesday 13 May at 10.30 am at Coychurch Crematorium, CF35 6AB. W.Bro David Bassett informs me that it is probable that there will be a more traditional wake and Memorial Service for Bro. Mark when circumstances permit.

Mark will be missed by all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him.
