Brethren,
It is with great regret that I must bring you
news of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of
W.Bro. Frank Knights.
Sadly Frank died in his sleep - probably of heart
failure - at 6.30 am on Wednesday 22nd March
2017. Born in the county of Norfolk on 25th
February 1927, he had recently celebrated
his 90th birthday.
|
Frank worked for
the National Provincial Bank which, was later to
become NatWest, and indeed it was his career that
brought him to South Wales. It was his father-in-law
William May, a Founder and Past Master of Morganwg Lodge
No 5084 who introduced him to Freemasonry. William May
was better known as Police Superintendent May, the
divisional commander responsible for the Bridgend area
at the time of the Island
Farm POW camp escape in March 1945. |
Initiated in May 1955, Frank became Secretary of
Morganwg Lodge in January 1959 whilst still a
Master Mason. He served in that capacity until 1965
when, presumably it was time to progress to the chair of
KS, which he did in 1968. After the Chair and his year
as IPM, Frank was elected Treasurer in 1970 and held
that office for precisely a quarter of a century! In
2002 he compiled the history of Morganwg Lodge. Frank was such a faithful and hard-working
servant of Morganwg that I personally doubt
that his record of service to the Lodge will ever be
surpassed. As recently as a couple of
years ago, he was still learning and delivering fresh
pieces of ritual - his most recent being the Charity
Charge in the First Degree, which he did magnificently. |
The funeral will
take place at
St
John the Baptist Church, Sully, where Frank was a
regular worshipper, at noon on Monday 3rd April
2017. Cremation will follow at the
Vale
of Glamorgan Crematorium at 1pm. Mourners will be
welcome at the subsequent wake, details of which will be
provided at the services. |
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Knight,
their son Richard and the rest of the family at this
very sad time.
REQUIESCAT IN PACE
Yours in fraternal sincerity,
Martyn Daley
