Brethren,

With much personal sadness I bring you the news of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W.Bro. Thomas Haydn Morgan. Haydn was 93 at the time of his passing on Friday 6th September.

I first encountered Haydn when I attended the (then) Bridgend Technical College in 1968-73. He was Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at that time and, I understand, became Vice-Principal of what became Bridgend College by the time of his retirement. He was held in the highest esteem by students and staff at the college. I have heard quite a few stories of his kindness and professionalism since the sad news of his passing became known.

Haydn was Initiated into Bridgend's Morganwg Lodge on 20 May 1957 and was Installed into the Chair of KS on 19 January 1970. A loyal, faithful and hard-working member of the Lodge, he was Director of Ceremonies and Preceptor for many years. Softly spoken but with a devastating wit and keen intellect, for me and everyone else, being in Haydn's company was a joy.

Haydn was elected to Honorary Membership of the Lodge in 2003 - during my first Mastership, in fact.

It was only a few months ago that Haydn went into Residential Care. I understand that his family were with him at the time of his passing.
